Back top topWhere can I get additional information related to Maps and Nokia Map Loader?
If you you would like to find out more about Maps and the Nokia Map Loader, please visit http://maps.nokia.com
Why are some maps navigable and others not?
There are navigable and non-navigable maps. Navigable maps are those for which Nokia offers a navigation license. Nokia does not yet offer a navigation license for the other maps because currently the map data for these regions does not fulfill Nokia quality standards; for example, due to limited map coverage in these areas. As the quality and coverage of these maps improves, Nokia will offer the navigation feature for more and more countries. Nokia does not have a direct influence on the quality and coverage of the map data as Nokia obtains it from third-party suppliers.
How do I find out which Maps version I am using?
To check your Maps version, select Options > About.
What exactly is Maps?
Maps is a mapping and routing application for different mobile devices. It is used for downloading maps and also for saving favourite spots as Places to share with friends. It can also calculate routes from A to B as a basic, free feature (only on navigable maps).
For additional fees, you can purchase a navigation upgrade, Traffic info, and Guides. The navigation upgrade releases the powerful GPS navigation features of Maps, with voice guidance. You can also purchase Traffic info, real time traffic information, and Guides, optional, premium-branded travel guides, packed with tips and other valuable information.
Back top topWhat is the difference between route planning and navigation in Maps 2.0?
Route planning is a free feature. It calculates and displays a route between two locations. A route simulation (with voice commands) is also possible (without paying additional license fees).
Navigation is an extra service, which is available for purchase. Navigation means that the route is calculated from your current GPS position to a chosen destination (for mobile devices without an internal GPS receiver, an external GPS receiver may be necessary; check your mobile device’s manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver). The navigation is voice-guided, meaning it tells you how to get to the desired destination step by step (for example, "in 300 meters turn left…"). Navigation also automatically re-calculates the route if you take a wrong turn.
The navigation feature can only be purchased for regions for which a navigable map is available (there are navigable and non-navigable maps). Route simulation is only possible on navigable maps. This is due to the often inferior quality of map information on non-navigable maps.
When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. See our FAQ on how to keep such costs down and contact your network provider for more information about your data plan.

Back top topWhat are the multimedia city guides in Maps 2.0?
This new type of a city guide features photos, video clips, and audio streams. To purchase multimedia city guides, select Options > Extras > Guides.
What does optimised routing mean in Maps 2.0?
Maps has always offered two route calculation modes: Faster route and Shorter route. While Shorter route finds the shorter distance between A and B, Faster route provides a quicker route to get you from A to B by preferring motorways and taller roads for the route calculation.
Optimised routing tries to close this gap. Optimised routing incorporates the benefits of Faster route and Shorter route, and offers you a solution that combines the advantages of both modes.
Back top topWill optimised routing in Maps 2.0 save fuel or shorten the travel time?
Optimised routing may indirectly save fuel, as it avoids small roads, in which you may need to stop more often, and prefers motorways, where you can keep a consistent travel speed throughout your journey.
Note that your driving style and the traffic circumstances affect fuel consumption.
Back top topCan I force a download of an entire map area (for example, an entire country)?
Only if you scroll over the entire area, tile by tile. As soon as you scroll to a border of the map tile, the tile next to the border will be downloaded. This allows minimum data transfer.
If you need map data for an entire region / country, we recommend you download Nokia Map Loader. Nokia Map Loader is a programme that enables your compatible PC to download map data for the Maps application and install it on your mobile device. This will save you the cost of downloading the map data directly to your mobile device, and it is also much faster. Another advantage of having map data for entire cities or regions on your mobile device is that the data is immediately available when starting the application, and you do not have to wait for the data to be downloaded.
When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. See our FAQ on how to keep such costs down and contact your network provider for more information about your data plan.
Back top topDo I need a memory card for my mobile device when I use Maps?
It is recommended that you use a compatible memory card, if your mobile device does not have a mass memory. If no memory card or mass memory is available, a set amount of internal memory in your device is reserved for Maps. If the downloaded map data exceeds this amount, the oldest data is removed.
Can I still make a phone call while using Maps?
Yes. All phone functions are preserved while Maps is running. Voice guidance is silenced during phone calls.
What mode do I have to set in my mobile device if I want to use Nokia Map Loader?
Always use Mass storage or Data transfer mode (not PC suite mode). Note that when using Maps on a Nokia N70 (or any other Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile device), to transfer map data to your mobile device you need to take the memory card out of your mobile device and insert it into a card reader connected to your PC. Start Nokia Map Loader to transfer the required map data onto your memory card. On these mobile devices it is not possible to transfer map data via USB cable and Nokia PC Suite.
Why can't I navigate across borders even though I purchased navigation licenses for more than one region?
If you purchase a navigation upgrade for two regions (for example, DACH and BeNeLux), it is not possible to navigate from a start point in one of the regions to a destination in the other region (for example, from Berlin to Amsterdam). However, if you have purchased the navigation upgrade for a bigger region covering both start and destination point, you will be able to initiate cross-border navigation within that region.
I installed an updated version of Maps and then updated the firmware software. Now the application crashes every time I start it on my mobile device – what can I do?
If you have installed an update of Maps and updated the firmware software of your mobile device (“firmware reflash”) afterwards, a previous version of Maps has been re-installed on your mobile device together with the firmware software. As this previous Maps version might not be compatible with the map data of the newer version you used beforehand, the application may crash. To avoid this, simply re-install the latest version of Maps on your mobile device. This will correct the problem of your application crashing.
How can I purchase a navigation upgrade for Maps 2.0?
Maps 2.0 is not only a mapping and routing application. The navigation upgrades release the powerful GPS navigation features of Maps 2.0. You can purchase Drive; full, voice-guided turn-by-turn car navigation.Or Walk; turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation and orientation. (For mobile devices without an internal GPS receiver, an external GPS receiver may be necessary; check your mobile device’s manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver.)
You can purchase navigation upgrades for selected countries and regions. Select Options > Extras > Drive & Walk or Walk. Accept the Terms and Conditions and EUSA (End User Service Agreement), select Download, the required region, and the length of the navigation license. Select the payment method and press OK. A secure data connection to the license server is established using wireless LAN or mobile internet.
When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. See our FAQ on how to keep such costs down and contact your network provider for more information about your data plan.
Back top topI’ve purchased a navigation upgrade for a certain region. How do I start the navigation for the first time?
If you want to navigate, keep in mind that your start and destination points have to be inside the region for which you purchased the feature. To start navigation, choose the destination for your route and make sure that you have a GPS connection (if you have an external GPS receiver connected to your mobile device, please make sure that the connection is established and stable). Keep in mind that a GPS fix is only possible if there are no obstacles between the GPS receiver and the sky; for example, outside or on the dashboard of your car. (Make sure that you don't install the GPS receiver or mobile device within the areas of the passenger cabin that are vulnerable to impact in the event of a crash, or in the area into which the airbag would expand. Ensure that neither the external GPS receiver nor the mobile device block the driver’s line of vision when installed.) As soon as you have found the place you want to navigate to and display it on the map, press the scroll key, and select Drive to or Walk to.
How can I save my own locations in Maps 2.0 and send them to a friend?
Your own locations can be saved as Places. These locations can also be sent via MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), SMS, email, Bluetooth technology, or infrared.
For example, to send your home location to a friend, find your home location from the map, press the scroll key, and select Add to My places. Enter a name for the location, select OK, and specify a category for the location. To send the location, select Options > Favourites > Places, press the scroll key, and select Send and the sending method.
Depending on the medium you choose for sending, costs for SMS or MMS (Multimedia Message Service) sending may arise; via Bluetooth technology and Infrared, sending is free of charge.

If you have purchased a navigation license but you are not able to navigate, select Options > Extras > Drive & Walk (or Walk); accept the Terms and Conditions and EUSA (End User Service Agreement), click Download, select the region you want to purchase, and try to purchase it again. If the application tells you that you have already purchased a navigation license for this region, make sure that the start and destination points for your navigation lie within the region for which you purchased the navigation. Note that if the start and/or destination point of your route is not within the purchased region, the navigation will not work. Start and destination points have to be within the purchased region.
Ensure that you purchased a navigation license valid for car and pedestrian navigation.
Back top topWhy does Maps 2.0 sometimes connect to the map server even though I already downloaded maps for an entire country with Nokia Map Loader?
Maps 2.0 always tries to establish an online connection to the map server because an online search for addresses on the server is much quicker than searching the data on the local mobile device memory or storage card.
Data transfer is indicated by a flashing icon in the lower right corner of the display. To prevent the device from establishing an internet connection and to avoid costs related to data transfer, select Options > Tools > Settings > Internet > Go online at start-up > No. Now the Maps application only uses the maps available in your mobile device.
Searching for locations without an internet connection saves in data transfer costs, but may also lead to poorer search results. To set Maps 2.0 to search the map server online, select Options > Tools > Go online. Searching the server delivers more results, is quicker, and more accurate.
When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. See our FAQ on how to keep such costs down and contact your network provider for more information about your data plan.
Back top topI don't hear any voice instructions for the navigation in Maps 2.0. What can I do?
If you want to hear voice guidance, you need to start Drive navigation first (voice guidance is not available for Walk navigation). Back top topDo I have to update the map data every time Maps is used?
No, Maps uses hybrid technology - hybrid architecture meaning that the basic world map (a bitmap image) is pre-installed on the mobile device, and when more detailed map data is needed the application connects to the server via mobile internet or Wi-Fi and downloads map data from the server on demand. All downloaded map data is stored on the mobile device’s internal memory or memory card (depending on what option has been chosen beforehand) so that the next time a map is accessed it does not need to be downloaded again (on Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile devices like the Nokia N70 it is not recommended to use the internal mobile device memory; please use a compatible memory card on these mobile devices). Through the settings, you decide how much memory you want to set free for this data. Once the memory fills up, the oldest data is overwritten.
Are there any running costs using Maps 2.0?
Using the basic application as such is free. When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. What does a Guide in Maps cost?
The price for a guide is around 7,99 €. Pricing will vary from guide to guide. The city guide license will be valid for one year.
Which mobile networks can be used for Maps?
Any IP-based network including General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), and Wireless Local Area Network (Wi-Fi) networks can be used (depending on what networks are supported by your mobile device).
How does Maps work?
Maps uses a server/client model in which global maps and address information are stored on the server. The Maps application downloads the map data from the server when needed and stores it locally (on the mobile device internal memory or a memory card; on Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile devices like the Nokia N70 it is not recommended to use the internal mobile device memory; please use a storage card on these mobile devices). The Maps application uses this locally stored data when no mobile internet connection is available.
The application downloads certain map tiles, not the entire map of a certain region or city. For example, if you plan a route from Berlin to Hamburg, all map tiles lying on your route will be downloaded, but not the entire map of Germany (a connection to the internet might be necessary).
Back top topIs the navigation service always available?
The servers work on a very high service level, but of course outages may occur.
Does Nokia control the availability of the Maps service?
We cannot control the data networks or the GPS satellites but the servers hosting the map data are operated by Nokia.
When trying to install Maps, I get an error message saying Update Error. What should I do?
If Maps is already part of the firmware software of your mobile device (like it is for example on the Nokia N95), and the version you try to install is the same as the one that has already been preinstalled to your mobile device, you receive the error message Update Error. In this case, there is no newer version of Maps available for your mobile device.
You can check later if there is a new Maps version available for your mobile device. Have a look at http://maps.nokia.com from time to time.
Back top topWhen I’m using Maps, I cannot launch any other application. What could be the reason for this?
This may occur if the Maps application uses the entire internal cache of your mobile device for map data. After you close the application you may not be able to launch any other application, which is due to the internal mobile device memory being full.
If this has happened to you, delete any older data (MP3s, pictures) from your mobile device’s internal cache using the Nokia File Manager.

Back top topHow does the address search work in Maps 2.0?
If you have allowed Maps 2.0 to use a mobile internet connection, the search is carried out on the map server on the internet, and the search results are downloaded to your mobile device.
If you have not allowed a mobile internet connection or if there is no mobile internet connection available, the address is searched from the maps currently available in your mobile device. Without an internet connection, street names are searched in the city you are currently in, and city names are searched in the country you are currently in. If sufficient map data is not available, no results may be found for a specific query.
Searching for addresses without an internet connection (offline search) saves in data transfer costs, but may also lead to poorer search results.
Back top topWhere are various Maps 2.0 files stored?
On some mobile devices like the Nokia N95, Maps 2.0 will be pre-installed on ROM (Read Only Memory), the map data and additional guide content will be stored on the memory card or internal mass memory if available. If the mobile device needs to be reflashed, map data will not be lost if stored on the memory card or internal mass memory. Purchased features can be restored via manual update as long as you keep using the same mobile device. To regain your navigation license in Maps 2.0 for the remaining time period, go to Options > Extras > My licenses > Update.
Please allow the connection to the license server to check for your licenses by selecting Yes and then selecting the correct internet access point (if asked). A note xx-day license activated is shown where xx is the amount of days remaining of your license, or alternatively the mobile device informs you that the license is updated.
If you want to use Maps 2.0 on a mobile device on which it hadn’t been pre-installed already, it is up to you whether you want to install Maps 2.0 on the memory card or on the internal mobile device memory. We recommend installing Maps 2.0 on the memory card where more memory space is available.

Back top topHow do I turn on the GPS functionality in my mobile device?
When using a mobile device with internal GPS receiver, always check the device manual for advice on how to get the best GPS performance.
Using a compatible external GPS receiver (for example connected via Bluetooth technology), please press 0 on the numeric keypad of your mobile device to connect to the GPS receiver. This functionality is only available in Maps for Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition mobile devices; for example, Nokia N95. When using Maps on a Nokia N70 or any other Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile device, your current position on the map is shown as soon as the connected GPS receiver has located your current position.
If Bluetooth connectivity is not already turned on, you will first be asked whether you want to turn on Bluetooth connectivity. Your mobile device will then start searching for mobile devices available via Bluetooth connectivity in your surrounding area. From the result list displayed, choose the correct entry to connect to your external GPS receiver.
Back top topYou may be asked for a pass code to connect to your GPS receiver. Although this pass code is “0000” in most cases, please check the manual of your GPS receiver to find out what the correct pass code is.
It may take a few minutes for the GPS to track you and for your position to be shown on the map. Remember you need a GPS connection to show your current position.
Do I need an external GPS receiver to use Maps?
Some Nokia mobile devices already have an internal GPS receiver (for example, Nokia N95). For those mobile devices, no external GPS receiver is needed (check your mobile device’s manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver).
Other mobile devices do not have an internal GPS receiver. To use Maps on such a mobile device, you need to connect a compabile external GPS receiver to your mobile device via Bluetooth technology. Press 0 on the numeric keypad of your mobile device to connect to the GPS receiver. This functionality is only available in Maps for Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition mobile devices, for example, Nokia N95. To use Maps for mapping and routing only, you do not need a GPS connection.
Back top topWhere is the GPS antenna located?
If you have a mobile device with internal GPS receiver, please consult your device manual to discover where the GPS antenna in your mobile device is located.
How long does it take to obtain a satellite fix?
For best performance, the GPS receiver requires unobstructed access to the satellites. The environment, such as high buildings, cloudy or rainy weather, may affect the signal quality.
The minimum time to get a satellite fix is 40 seconds. In practice, the required time can be several minutes, unless the GPS receiver is used in a location where it has been recently used (provided that is has unobstructed access to the satellites).
The time to the first fix can be reduced if Assisted GPS (A-GPS) is available on your mobile device. A-GPS is only available for mobile devices with an internal GPS receiver. For the availability of firmware updates with A-GPS, see the website of your mobile device.
Back top topWhat is my current position on the map?
Some Nokia mobile devices already have an internal GPS receiver (for example, Nokia N95). For those mobile devices, no external GPS receiver is needed (check your mobile device manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver). To show your current position, press 0 (on Symbian Series 60 2nd edition mobile devices, for example the N70, you can display your current GPS position in the map by pressing Options > GPS position). It may take a few minutes for the GPS to track you and for your position to be shown on the map. Remember you need a GPS connection to show your current position.

Back top topDoes GPS work in the car?
The performance of the GPS function in the car depends on the car, location of the car kit holder, and the windows (for good visibility to satellites). Some car windows that have athermic (or UV-coated) windscreens may also affect the signal strength.
If your car has windscreen heating, it might take a little longer until a first fix is found.
Make sure that you don't install the GPS receiver or mobile device within the areas of the passenger cabin that are vulnerable to impact in the event of a crash, or in the area into which the airbag would expand. Ensure that the GPS receiver and mobile device do not block the driver’s line of vision when installed.
Back top topHow do I get the best performance from GPS?
If you use a mobile device with an internal GPS receiver, please check the manual of your mobile device for the location of the GPS antenna. When using the GPS receiver, hold it upright in your hand at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, with a clear view of the sky. Make sure that your hand does not cover the GPS functionality. The time is takes to establish a GPS connection may vary between a few seconds and several minutes. Establishing a GPS connection in the car may take longer.
Note: GPS functionality takes its power from the battery. Using an internal GPS receiver or Bluetooth connectivity with a compatible external GPS receiver may drain the battery faster.
If no satellite signal is found, consider the following:
Please remember that when using an external GPS receiver (for example connected via Bluethooth technology), you have to press 0 key on the numeric keypad to establish a connection to the receiver. Back top topDoes payment with SMS (Short Message Service) in Maps work with all network providers?
No, it does not work with all network providers. Although we cover the major ones, some are still missing and may be added in due course (please contact your network provider for further information). If your network provider does not support payment via Premium SMS, the pay via Premium SMS option will not be displayed.
What happens if I open one or more of the incoming premium SMS (Short Message Service) messages before the Maps application processes it?
The premium SMS is sent so quickly that there is little time for you to leave the application beforehand. The very moment the license SMS is received to your mobile device, it is immediately processed by the application so that the purchased features can be used on the spot.
What happens to my purchased features if I install a new version (update) of Maps on top of the old one?
If you install a new version of Maps on top of a previous one, your purchased features will not be affected.
What happens to my purchased features if I install an older version of Maps on top of the new one?
When downgrading Maps, the features purchased in the newer version may not be available in the older version due to changes in data formats. Therefore, it is not recommended to downgrade Maps.
If you downgraded Maps unintentionally, for example if you flashed the phone with firmware that contains an older version of Maps, go to maps.nokia.com, and download and re-install the latest version to continue using the features you purchased.
Back top topIs the payment by credit card in Maps made over a secure connection?
Yes, the connection between the License Manager application on your mobile device and server is RSA encrypted, and the connection from the License Manager server to credit card authoriser is SSL-secured.
I don’t have a credit card. Is there another way to pay for the extra services in Maps?
For technical reasons, you cannot pay for the navigation upgrade with a bank transfer, sale on account, or advance payment. Check if your network provider allows payment with premium SMS or operator billing.
How can I get an invoice for my Maps purchase (for example, a navigation upgrade)?
If you require an invoice for your purchase in Maps (for example, if you purchase a navigation license) and you have paid with a credit card, enter your email address in the field provided during the purchase. You then receive an invoice for your purchase to that email address. You also receive a confirmation text message for each purchase.
If you forgot to enter your email address or made a mistake when entering it, you can request an invoice for your purchase afterwards. Contact support@openbit.com with your invoice request. Include the following information when contacting:

A note xx-day license activated is shown where xx is the amount of days left of your license, or alternatively the mobile device informs you that the license is updated.
Back top topWhat is Nokia Map Loader?
Nokia Map Loader is a program that enables your compatible PC to download map data for the Maps application and to install it on your mobile device. This will save you the cost of downloading the map data through your mobile device, and it is also much faster. Another advantage of having the map data for entire cities or regions on your mobile device is that the data is immediately available when starting the application, and you do not have to wait for the data to be downloaded.
How do I install / start the Nokia Map Loader application the first time?
First, download the Nokia Map Loader application to your compatible PC.
After that, double click the Nokia Map Loader icon. You will then be asked to confirm the license agreement and to select the location where the application will be installed. The installer checks if you have already installed the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.x program. If this is the case, the installation is complete. If you do not yet have this software installed on your PC, the Nokia Map Loader installer will ask you to download .NET Framework 3.x and installit. After the installation of Nokia Map Loader and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.x is complete, Nokia Map Loader starts automatically and you can start to use it.
Back top topWhat do I have to do in order to transfer map data through Nokia Map Loader?
There are two ways to transfer map data onto your mobile device:
1 - through a card reader
2 - through a USB cable
In the first case, you need to take the memory card out of your mobile device and insert it into a card reader connected to your PC. In the second case, you need to connect your mobile device to the PC by a USB cable. When using this method it is very important that you choose the Mass Storage or Data transfer mode on your mobile device; otherwise the data transfer will not take place. After you have chosen Mass storage or Data transfer, confirm that you will use the mobile device in an offline mode (press Continue).
To transfer map data to a Nokia N70 (or any other Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile device), take the memory card out of your mobile device and insert it into a card reader connected to your PC. Start Nokia Map Loader to transfer the required map data onto your memory card. On these mobile devices it is not possible to transfer map data via USB cable or Nokia PC Suite.
Back top topWhat is the recommended way to transfer map data to my Nokia mobile device via Nokia Map Loader software?
Keep in mind that you need to use the application within your mobile device at least once before you can transfer data with Nokia Map Loader. If you want to transfer data through an USB cable, it is necessary to choose the Mass Storage or Data transfer mode on your mobile device. Otherwise the data transfer will not work.

Back top topHow do I transfer map data to my mobile device using a PC and Nokia Map Loader?
In order to avoid data transfer costs on your mobile device, you can transfer map data to your mobile device via compatible PC and Nokia Map Loader. The download of map data via Nokia Map Loader is also much faster.
After installing the Nokia Map Loader application on your PC, start the application. First, choose the continent in the tab on the top of the application window. Then choose the country. Some small countries can be chosen completely, others have several sub-maps from which you have to choose the ones you want to install.
You can install as many maps as you want, as long as you have memory space left on your card. If you choose more data than there is space left on your card, you will get a warning message. You can see the map you have chosen on the right side of the window. With the + symbol you can add maps to your list. With the - symbol you can remove them from the list. Press the download button to transfer the map data to your mobile device or memory card. After the download to your mobile device has been completed, the list on the right side of the screen will be cleared.
Back top topWhat does the Nokia Map Loader install to my PC?
Nokia Map Loader needs the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.x programme to operate properly. Therefore, the installer checks if you already have installed this program version. If you have not installed it, the installer will ask you if you want to download and install .NET Framework 3.x. Confirm the installation process and let the installation run through; otherwise you will not be able to use the Nokia Map Loader application on your compatible PC.
Nokia Map Loader does not recognise the mobile device I connected using a USB, nor the memory card with the Maps application in my card reader. What should I do?
Start the Maps application on your mobile device at least once and make sure that it has established an online connection to the map data server before you try to transfer map data with Nokia Map Loader. When you start the application for the first time, a cookie is created and stored on the memory card; this file is necessary for Nokia Map Loader to recognize the memory card. After the first start, you can either connect your mobile device through USB with your compatible PC or insert the card into a card reader connected to your PC.

Start Nokia Map Loader to transfer the required map data to your memory card. On these mobile devices it is not possible to transfer map data via USB cable or Nokia PC Suite.
Back top topI’ve downloaded an area to my mobile device through Nokia Map Loader, but the transfer does not complete – what should I do? Can I abort the download?
Do not abort the download of map data to your mobile device. Before you start the transfer, make sure that there is enough memory space available on your memory card for the amount of data you want to copy. You can see the amount of data which should be transferred to your mobile device in the Nokia Map Loader application on the line Total selected; on the line below you can see how much memory space there is left on your mobile device.
Keep in mind that if you try to export huge amounts of data, for example if you want to transfer the map data of an entire country or continent, it might take a very long time until all data has been transferred to the card. Also note that you need to keep the USB connection to your mobile device constant (data transfer via USB connection does not work with Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile devices like the Nokia N70. Use a card reader connected to your PC and insert the memory card into it in order to transfer map data via Nokia Map Loader), as well as the connection from your PC to the internet while transferring data.
Back top topNokia Map Loader does not download map data although my compatible PC is connected to the internet, what should I do?
As the Nokia Map Loader application uses the same internet gateway as some internet programmes, Nokia Map Loader may not connect to the internet in order to download further map data if you have set the internet settings to ‘offline’ in one of these programs. Check that the internet connection in the programs you use is not set to work offline.
After copying map data to my mobile device using Nokia Map Loader, Maps crashes when I start it. How can I avoid this?
This problem may be caused by the Maps application on your mobile device using data from a different map data release other than the Nokia Map Loader on your compatible PC. To avoid this, make sure you always use the latest versions of Maps installed on your mobile device and Nokia Map Loader on your PC.
Can I delete map data of single countries / regions with Nokia Map Loader?
It is not possible to delete map data of single countries or regions on your mobile device with Nokia Map Loader because the map data is downloaded in tiles, which are small map squares. Although each tile has a unique identification, it is technically not possible at the moment to delete all tiles of a certain country or region at once.
Why does Nokia Map Loader delete maps in my mobile device?
When a new map data release is available on the map data server, Nokia Map Loader deletes all old map data from your mobile device as soon as you connect it to your PC. Afterwards, you can select which areas you would like to have maps available for in your mobile device and transfer them via Nokia Map Loader.
Why is the amount of data shown in Space left on mobile device in the Nokia Map Loader less than the actual size of my memory card?
Nokia Map Loader shows the amount of available data on your memory card that can be used for storing map data in the Maps application (for example, if you have a 1GB memory card with half of the card’s memory space intended to be used for Maps, Nokia Map Loader will show you 512MB free disk space, provided you have no map data installed yet). You can change the amount of space reserved for map data in the Maps application through Options > Tools > Settings > Map > Maximum memory usage (the bar indicates how much of the memory card can be used for Maps before the oldest map data is overwritten).
